Will the Sprint version of the HTC Hero be "rootable"? I am a big fan of Cyanogen's ROMs and was hoping that these could be applied to the new Sprint Hero. Is there anything preventing this? Thank you.

P.S. I am not concerned about losing the SenseUI or the Sprint content.

As I understand, the Cyanogen mods are currently only available for G1 and MyTouch. The Hero is rootable, however. Try here:

This seems to be the main ROM people use, created by MoDaCo:

I don't think anyone knows till we get our hands on it. Other versions of the Hero have been hacked, but the Sprint Hero is likely to include a new SPL and likely to block custom roms. When I get a Sprint Hero, I will definitely see if I can replace the recovery image and see what happens.

Cheers Taylor. I should probably read the post and notice key words such as SPRINT before I spend 20 minutes researching rooting. lol

I was able to root my CDMA Sprint Hero using the guide here >> http://theunlockr.com/2009/11/07/how-to-root-your-cdma-htc-hero-sprint-verizon/comment-page-1/

I should also add that Steve (cyanogen) has said he will only support phones that he owns(g1 and mytouch).

I just got myself a Sprint Hero, and yes, the ways posted above work, and it's super easy.

But, we have like zero ROMs right now, and MoDaCo's ROM is just a few differences from Sprint stock, which isn't all that bad of a ROM anyways.
